Water is widely used as a solvent, reagent, inactive ingredient, vehicle, and cleaning agent in the processing, formulation, and production of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) and finished drug products. Testing water for microbial contamination lowers the risk of a batch rejection due to contamination in the finished product. Water testing is also important in the manufacturing of OTC drug, cosmetic, and dietary supplement products.
